Hawick v GHA

HAWICK 37, GHA 30
Hawick were hoping to build on the recent good run of results and it looked like come half time that the visitors were going to overturn this, all to the disappointment of the good local support along with the large party of New Zealand tourists.
GHA started confidently and were 3 points up with a penalty within 2 minutes but Craig Neish replied with a similar effort shortly afterwards. Another GHA penalty regained the lead for the visitors before a good break up the touchline by Andy Wilson who found Neil Renwick up in support to score at the posts for a converted try. What followed was some very slack play and poor tackling by Hawick who found themselves 30-10 behind from another 3 converted tries and a penalty from GHA. A couple of penalties by Neish narrowed the deficit to 16-30 at halftime.
Hawick came out the dressing room a completely different side and dominated play for most of the second half, the forwards in particular by taking the play to their opponents. Matt Landels finished off a good move to score in the corner which was well converted by Neish. A drop goal by Barry Sutherland and another penalty by Neish brought Hawick to within a point at 29-30. Rory Hutton again playing the Captain's role, strolled over for an unconverted to give Hawick the lead. Craig Neish finished the scoring with another penalty but Hawick had to withstand a strong finish by GHA but managed to hold on and reach the final whistle to record another narrow victory by 37 points to 30
