GHA 38, HAWICK 17
The difference in league placings meant nothing on
the day when bottom place GHA comfortably beat seventh
place Hawick
at Braidholm and shows that there are no easy
matches for any team in this league.
After Hawick's much improved display last week against
Edinburgh Accies, it was back to playing as individuals
rather than a team. The tacking was very poor, the
lineout again is needing attention and the forwards
failed to hunt as a pack which was not the case earlier
in the season.
GHA produced their best display of the season to ease
their relegation worries with a bonus point win. The
match was all but over at half time as GHA scored five
of their six tries. Another try in the second half
completed the rout. All Hawick could respond with was
two converted tries by Geoff Cross and Greg Goodfellow
and a penalty which leaves Hawick with much work to do
in the coming weeks to get their league campaign back on
track.
Team:- Barry
Sutherland, Colin Murray, Craig Neish, Rory Scott,
Michael Graham, Rory Hutton, Kevin Reid, Nicky Little, Simon
Fleetwood, Geoff Cross, Michael Robertson,
Gavin Petrie, Nick McTaggart, David Lowrie and Ryan Hogg
Subs:- Greg Goodfellow, Steven Anderson, Ross Borthwick,
Keith Davies and Sean Linton

SELKIRK A 3, HAWICK ACADEMY 41
with
the souters having defeated second placed Gala the week
previous, a hard fixture was expected and so it
was. With only a missed penalty attempt by each side
being the nearest to open the scoring in the first half
hour, the deadlock was broken when a Selkirk clearance
was fielded by B Campbell who fed S Anderson,
going flat out he chipped a defender, regathered, and
fed center R Armstrong who ran in to score. A penalty by
the home team narrowed the score to 5-3, before an
Academy box kick was allowed to bounce and landed in the
bread basket of prop Bobby Robson on the 22. With no
defenders to beat, he showed a fair turn of speed for a
prop to score Brian Habana style for a 10-3 half
time lead.
Five minutes into the second half skipper and veteran
Hawick player N Douglas ran in Hawick's third try after
a poor clearance by the Souters and the bonus point try
followed soon after when within a minute of coming of
the bench Ross Borthwick finished of a fine move to
score under the posts. This saw N Renwick kick his
first points of the night. The fitness of the players
which had shown up over the season showed up again in
the last 10 minutes as they ran in 3 tries, firstly K
Davies was on hand to score following a fine interplay
between Renwick Goodfellow and Anderson, then the backs
worked an overlap for Douglas to run in his second. In
the last minute of play B Campbell finished off on
behalf of the forwards when he went over from all of one
foot to score, Renwick converted 2 of the 3 tries.
