DUNDEE HSFP 21,
HAWICK 22
Hawick have always found Mayfield a very difficult venue
to come away with the spoils and this occasion proved no
different. Playing on a back pitch as the main ground
was deemed unplayable, Hawick performed another one of
their second half comebacks to gain only their second
away victory of the season and another 4 vital league
points and further ease relegation worries.
Again a good number of travelling supporters made the
trip to Dundee and saw Hawick take an early lead in the
opening minute through the boot of Craig Neish. Dundee
fought back and scored a converted try but Craig Neish
regained the lead for Hawick with another 2 well struck
penalties. Dundee again rallied and scored another 2
converted tries. Hawick reached half time trailing by 21
points to 9 with much work to do in the next forty
minutes.
Hawick started the second half a different side from the
first, keeping Dundee camped in their own half for
lengthy periods. Another Neish penalty pulled the
deficit back to 12-21. The Hawick pack had now taken
control and after numerous attacks on the Dundee line,
the ball was finally released to the backs with Steven
Anderson finishing off in the corner, Craig Neish
slotted the difficult conversion to get Hawick right
back into the match at 19-21 with ten minutes remaining.
The Hawick pack were still calling all the shots and
their efforts were finally rewarded when Craig Neish
landed his fifth penalty to seal a famous single point
win by 22 points to 21.
