BERWICK 7, HAWICK 31
Hawick travelled to Scremerston for their first
match in this season's Border League campaign. The
selected Hawick team consisted of some seasoned
campaigners ans some young players eager to make a name
for themselves. The match was played in perfect Spring
like conditions with both teams keen to throw the ball
about at every opportunity.
The home side were first on the scoreboard with a
converted try after five minutes. Hawick were level
shortly afterwards when Barry Sutherland found the gap
to score under the sticks which Craig Neish converted.
Hawick took the lead after fifteen minutes when Dean
McCracken scored an unconverted try. A great move from
their own half with both forwards and backs combining
well, finished with Lee Armstrong scoring which Craig
Neish converted. Half time score Berwick 7, Hawick 19.
The second half started well for Hawick when Neil
Douglas forced his way over at the posts for another
converted try to seal the bonus point for the visitors.
Berwick came more into the match and were only prevented
from scoring by some excellent Hawick defence. Nick
McTaggart score an unconverted try fifteen minutes from
full time to complete the scoring and a good start to
this season's Border League
