HAWICK 47, KELSO 5
Hawick entertained Kelso in a friendly match at
Mansfield Park, the first in seven week, the last game
at home being against Glasgow Hawks way back on 19th
January. A good size crowd turned out for this evening
fixture with Hawick turning on the style against their
Border neighbours.
Hawick got off to the best possible start with a John
Coutts try in the first minute, converted by Neil
Renwick. Scores came at regular intervals, the next
coming from Colin Murray following a break by Coutts and
Thomson, again converted by Renwick. The same
combination set up the next score for Neil Renwick who
also converted. Kelso scored their only points of the
night ten minutes from the interval to turn around 5-21
in arrears.
Two minutes into the second half, the pack set up a
converted try by Craig Neish who just came onto the
pitch after ther break. The match went flat for a while
following some substitutions but Hawick got into their
stride again in the 67th minute with a try by Rory
Scott. Five minutes later another try by the same
player, converted by Renwick takes the score past forty
points. Five minutes from time, David Lowrie drove over,
again converted by Renwick to finish the scoring at
Hawick 47, Kelso 5.
