With no wins and only two
bonus points prior to this match, pressure is on to get
this season's campaign into gear and start moving up the
league table. Nobody at
Mansfield Park is under any illusion that this is going
to be a very difficult task.
With Aberdeen sitting mid
table another very tough match was on the cards. The
visitors certainly started the stronger and Hawick, as
in previous matches, failed to get into any sort of
rhythm for most of the first half. Aberdeen were twelve
points up in as many minutes through two tries. Lee
Armstrong slotted a penalty for Hawick but for the rest
of the half it was virtually one way traffic. Another
four tries saw Aberdeen more or less out of sight at
34-3. Just before the break, Lindsay Gibson crossed for
a try, converted by Armstrong to give a Hawick a glimmer
of hope at 34-10.
The long break in the
changing room saw Hawick start the second half a
different side with Aberdeen having to defend their line
for lengthy periods. Following a lineout, the forwards
drove towards the line and Nick Mactaggart emerged with
the ball to barge his way over for a try which Armstrong
again converted. Another similar effort by Mactaggart
and Armstrong minutes later put Hawick right back into
the match at 24-34. All this hard work was wasted when
Aberdeen were allowed to score a very soft try from the
kick off. A well taken Bruce McNeil try in the corner
brought Hawick back to within ten points at 41-31 but
Aberdeen finally put Hawick out of their misery with a
penalty in the final minute to round of another very
disappointing display from the Greens.
Final score Hawick 31,
Aberdeen 44. |
