Hawick v Currie

AYR 15, HAWICK 13

Following last week's heavy defeat at the hands of Currie, Hawick traveled to Millbrae which has not been a happy hunting ground in recent season's. With Ayr not being as dominant in this campaign having already lost three matches, Hawick were certainly in with a shout if improvements could be made

After a spell of good Hawick attacking play Ayr got a lucky try to take the lead 7-0 after 10 mins. A successful penalty taken by Neil Renwick brought the score to 7-3. A quick turnover try by Ayr gave them an unconverted try which was followed by another good penalty kick in blustery conditions from Renwick. 12-6. Chris Ritson replaced the injured Renwick just before half-time. Half-time score 12-6

Good pressure from Hawick gave another penalty opportunity, missed by Hutton. Seven minutes in Ritson was sin-binned for coming in from the side at a ruck. More pressure from the Hawick forwards led to a well-worked try by Keith Davies from a scrum on the Ayr line, converted by Johnstone. 25 minutes in to second-half Rory Sutherland was yellow-carded for persistent fouling at the line-out. A penalty in the last 5 minutes gave Ayr the victory.

This was a much improved display from the Greens. The forwards on top of the game - bullying the opposition in scrum and line-out. Hawick were unlucky to leave Millbrae without a win.
