Following last Saturday's
draw with Stirling County, Hawick arrived at Raeburn
Place hoping to build on that improved seconds half
performance and get their first long awaited victory of
the season. With professional ex Hawick player John
Houston available and selected at centre, the loyal
travelling support were anticipating a change in
Hawick's fortunes and a performance that lasted eighty
minutes minus the missed tackles and basic errors that
has been so much in evidence in their last five matches.
From the start in was
the Accies who were much the stronger team, the Hawick
team failing to settle and get into any sort of rhythm.
A penalty after only two minutes got the home side of
the mark. A vast majority of the play was in the Hawick
half of the pitch and the defence held firm until the
twenty second minute when Accies broke out from well
inside their own half and scored in the corner. Much
more pressure produced another score just before the
break and a 13-0 lead for Accies.
From the start of the
second half Hawick certainly upped their work rate but
were unable to find that vital break in the Accies'
defence. Much hard work was to no avail as again basic
errors and missed tackles were Hawick's downfall. Accies
again broke out from their own half and once more scored
a converted try. Another home try sealed Hawick's fate
and a deserved victory for Accies by 25 points to 0.
All in all, a match
that Hawick never looked like dominating or winning
which leaves the incoming new head coach and all players
with much hard work to do as our place in the play off
league now looks assured. |
