Match report: 12th November

Hawick v Selkirk

HAWICK 38, SELKIRK 16
Hawick's very inconsistent form this Season can be summed up with the should have won away match against Ayr followed the week after with that awful performance against Glasgow Hawks. With a break in the Premier league fixtures until January when Hawick will it all to do to remain in Premier One, attention now turns to the Border League and Scottish Cup Action and Selkirk's visit to Mansfield Park. With Selkirk just missing out on a play off spot in Premier B, Hawick would have a tough task to get their Cup campaign off to a good start.

Selkirk were first on the scoreboard with a penalty but it was Hawick who were pressing the Selkirk line and the pressure finally paid dividends when Rory Sutherland forced his way over the line for a try which Neil Renwick converted. Hawick continued to attack the Selkirk line and following a quick tap penalty by Greg Cottrell the ball found Keith Davies who went over unopposed which Renwick again converted for a 14-3 lead. Selkirk replied with a unconverted try and Neil Renwick put over a penalty just before the break for a 17-8 lead

Into the second half and it was now Selkirk putting Hawick under pressure. A good Fraser Harkness try followed by a penalty brought Selkirk to within a point pf Hawick's lead at 17-16. The final quarter was all Hawick, Rory Hutton split the Selkirk defence for a try under the posts. Rory Sutherland bulldozed his way over for his second try and the same player capped a fine performance with another try for his hat trick, all three tries converted by Neil Renwick for a deserved win by 38 points to 16.

At last a victory to give the players a bit of winning mentality which will hopefully see Hawick have a good run in the Border League and the Cup in the coming weeks.
